If you have been looking for piano lessons online, I am sure that you have seen that there are many of them out on the internet, and it's really difficult to figure out which one to is the best. Obviously, the best way to do this is to try them all and to select a winner, but this tedious task is something few of us have the time and money to pull off. When you look at reviews, always try to find out who the reviewer is. Does he really play piano, or is he someone trying to rip you off? This is an important thing to consider. If you cannot find any information about the reviewer, or if the website looks bad, it would be better to look for another review.
Why did you want to start playing the piano in the first place? What was your source of inspiration? The goal of you piano playing plays a big role when deciding which lessons to take. A lot of lessons focus on different things. If you want to play Elton John, don't sign up for a course teaching classical music and vice-versa. This seems like common sense, but surprisingly many people choose the wrong playing style and therefore quits early. Also consider taking a course for the skill level that you want to reach. No point in trying striving to be a professional if that wasn't your original goal.
Find out how popular each course you encounter is. If the lessons you want to buy are barely mentioned on any site, it's probably not a good course. If the course is mentioned a lot of places however, you should be safe.
Now the last thing I want to make clear, is that the methods each course use to instruct varies a lot. In fact, no teaching method is equally good for each and every student. Some lessons mostly rely upon reading notation, while some will have you develop your hearing and vision so that you can play by ear. Both methods are really important to learn eventually, but starting out, you usually want to start with one method. Decide out which way you learn best, and attempt to find one that suits you.
